Is that what you got from the article ...Anonymous,

Is that what you got from the article - that anyone who criticizes a leader is a bligot, and anyone who supports the president is following him blindly as their Messiah? If so that kind of narrow, distorted, and one-dimensional thinking goes a long way towards explaining why you're being bamboozled. Eric L. Tavis stirs up controversy with he and West's inflammatory rhetoric, and then he turns around and covers the very controversy that he stirred up with his various businesses - his publishing company, his production company, and his speaker's bureau. The scam is sweet.
.
http://wattree.blogspot.com/2013/01/poverty-pimp-inc.html Eric L. But if we are going to perpetuate that fantasy, we must also introduce the term "Blidiot" for Black people who blindly follow a "leader" simply or primarily because of the color of their skin (Messiah complex) and close their minds to any kind of meaningful critique of the leader's politics or strategies as they pertain TO BLACK PEOPLE. I guess the kool-aid in paper cups comes next. I have never really engaged the "blacl blog world" because I had no interest in commenting/reading about who slapped whom on some God-awful reality show. I came across this blog on my birthday (23rd) and after a bit more research I must say I really like it. I will set up a profile soon and join in on your discussions. You are providing a much needed voice/arena to - unfortunately- under covered issues in the African-American comminity. When Corn...Thank you, Katalyst, and that so true.
.
When Cornel West came along thirty or so years ago, the Black community was so thrilled to have a Black “scholar” that was embraced by the academic establishment that we accepted him uncritically. In addition, we were anxious to support him, much like we support Obama today, because he was our proof that Black people were not intellectually inferior, as many were saying at that time.
.
As a result, we never took the time to investigate whether or not all of the hype about his intellectual brilliance was valid, and even if it wasn't, we really didn't want to know - and that included me. I was a big fan of Cornel West.
.
But about five years ago, when he sat on Tavis Smiley’s knee and let him stick his hand in his back, that sent up a red flag for me, so I started researching him. That’s when I found out that he was not only far less of an intellectual than the hype suggested, but he was also a fraud and a clown - the academic equivalent of George Jefferson.
.
I now suspect that his association with Harvard and Princeton had something to do with the White liberal academic establishment’s version of an affirmative action effort. Either that, or a bad joke at our expense, because the guy is definitely an embarrassment to the Black community. He might as well be walking around in platform shoes with goldfish swimming around in the soles.
.
I’m just glad that we have someone with the dignity and common sense of Barack Obama in the public eye to offset his clownish, “look-at-me-everybody,” behavior and image. Yeah, George Jefferson, that’s exactly who he reminds me of - and that's not a slam. I'm dead serious.Eric L. It's amazing to me the "scholars", politicians and other so-called leaders, black & white, who have thrown away what would've otherwise been stellar legacies since the election of our most excellent, President Barack Obama. Cornell West ("Professor" no longer seems relevant) is at the top of the list and my brain cannot wrap around his apparent transformation.

I'll paraphrase something Michelle Obama said about her husband at the DNC convention. "Power doesn't change who you are. It reveals who you are" West has revealed himself to be what was there all along. Sam Jackson's "Stephen" can't hardly compete.

Thanks for the great post!Katalysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02682024009249487598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19330072.post-3227951961446904652013-01-24T12:52:05.487-08:002013-01-24T12:52:05.487-08:00Thank you, Heru,
