ABOUT ALL THIS PRAYIN’ AND CHURCH-IFYIN’

Beneath the Spin * Eric L. Wattree

ABOUT ALL THIS PRAYIN’ AND CHURCH-IFYIN’
.
TO EVANGELICALS:
IF YOUR GOD IS NOT TELLING YOU
TRUMP IS AN EVIL-MINDED LUNATIC,
YOU’RE TALKING TO THE WRONG PERSON.
.
Wait a minute, lady, you just called me a “demonic lunatic!” Now, you know that wasn't very Christian of you, now, don’t you? We can't just be Christian when we want to be. So, tell me, whatever happened to that “Turning the other cheek”, and "Judge ye not” that you’re always talkin’ about?  But now that you don't like my political position your Christian love seems to have flown right out the window, hasn’t it?
.
You see, there are two kinds of people who claim to be Christians, the first are the hypocrites, of which you seem to be a charter member. These people are Christian in flappin’ lips and spewin' Bible verses only. They love to go around spewing the Bible and criticizing others as they casually go about their lives molesting children, exploiting the weak, and grabbing the genitals of the opposite sex.  Such people place genuine Christians in a bad light. Genuine Christians generally keep their mouths shut and simply live their faith - all five of them.
.
But what this is really about is that you called me a demonic lunatic because I don't like Donald Trump.  Now, the jury is still out on whether or not I’m a lunatic, but I don’t have to worry about all that demonic nonsense, because I'm not a Christian so I don’t believe in demons. So, you see, I'm free to say what's REALLY on my mind instead of trying to fool God by lyin' to him. I don't have to try to cover up bigotry and hatred of everybody who doesn't look, think, and act like me by claiming to love Trump because I want America to be great again.  God knows what's you’re thinking. He knows that you only love Trump because he's helping you to make America evil and racist again. So you fake Christians better hope like hell that God's not at Heaven's gate asking questions to see whether you'll try to lie to him or not, because if he is, all he'd have to ask you is one question, "Do you REALLY believe in walking dead men, talkin' snakes, and loving your neighbor?" If he does, you're all going to Hell for lyin'.
.
You people are evil, and destroying this country.  While you’re running around talking about how much you love Jesus, you’re robbing, murdering, stealing, and creating absolute chaos all over the world. You've slaughtered over a 100 million Native Americans, and no telling how many Black people. So I mean, really, do you really think God is actually gonna let your hypocritical, lyin’, self-righteous asses into Heaven!!!? Not on your life. In fact, it would be impossible for one very simple and logical reason -  because with you in Heaven, it would turn Heaven into Hell for everyone else. Who would want to sit around listenin’ to Pat Robertson lyin' throughout eternity?  That would be more than even God could take.

But I ain’t just singling you White folks out. We have some very tiresome Black Christians as well - but I also blame you for that, because you’re the ones who taught ‘em to be lyin', greedy hypocrites.  For that reason, Black Christians are gonna have a very unique problem in Heaven. Since there's nowhere in Heaven to buy a big car, and T.D Jakes won't be able to find nowhere to buy his tailor-made fugadoo suits, they ain’t gonna be able to find nobody willing to preach.
.

TURN OFF THE ONLY THING YOU KNOW GOD GAVE YOU!!!?
*
I'M TRYING MY BEST, LORD, BUT THEY'VE BEEN
BRAINWASHED FROM CHILDHOOD.  THEY THINK YOU'RE GONNA BE MAD AT 'EM IF THEY THINK.
HOW DO YOU GET THROUGH TO PEOPLE WHO GIVE AWAY THEIR MONEY AND THEN PRAY FOR YOU TO PAY THEIR BILLS?

Rev Marvin Winans: Don’t Just Preach Us A Sermon, Live Us One

Beneath the Spin * Eric L. Wattree

.
Rev. Marvin Winans: Don’t Just Preach Us A Sermon, Live Us One
.
When I first heard that Rev. Marvin Winans (of the gospel-singing Winans klan) refused to receive and Bless a child before his congregation because the child was born out of wedlock, I thought it was just another one of those ridiculous urban legends, because no Black minister could be that pompously out of touch with reality (I specified "Black minister" because Pat Robertson is White, and I’m not surprised at anything he does), and certainly no one with as high a public profile as Marvin Winans could possibly be that big a fool.
.
But it turns out that it’s not just a rumor. During an interview with My Foxdetroit.com, Ms. Charity Grace indicated that she and her son, Joshua, recently began attending Perfecting Church, which is presided over by Rev. Marvin Winans. Recently the churched announced that it was having a special service dedicated to blessing children two years old and under. Upon hearing the announcement Ms. Grace became quite excited over the prospect of having her son blessed by the church. In that regard she said, "I want to instill values and morals in my son based upon the word of God."
.
But when she contacted the church to make arrangements to have her son participate in the service, she was told that "Pastor Winans' policy is that he is not to bless children of unwed mothers in front of the congregation." Ms. Grace said, "I've never felt so degraded and disrespected in my life." She goes on to say, "The church is the last place you go and be judged and denied."
.
And she’s absolutely right. How can Pastor Winans profess to be teaching his congregation to follow "the word of God" when he’s ignoring it, or is ignorant of it himself? Matthew 7:1-5 of the King James version of the Holy Bible is very emphatic in saying the following:
.
Matthew 7:1-5
.
"(1)Judge not, that ye be not judged. (2) For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. (3) And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (4) Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? (5) Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
.
So the Bible itself is calling Winans a hypocrite. Ms. Grace was clearly pure of heart and had a Godly mindset when she first, began to take her son to attend church, and then, made the conscious decision to have her son blessed by what she thought was a "man of God." So it is indeed ironic that she had to go to church to be greeted by ignorance and evil. Listen to the words of one God-fearing, good, and loving Christian. She posted as Tia on the "Old Black Church" website:
.
". . .let the word of god be true, and every man a liar. Romans 3
I agree with pastor Winan's decision. This epidemic in our community has gotten out of hand. As my grand mother used to say in the old church "somebody's got to have some sense". People continue vicious destructive cycles because no one stands up and says the behavior is wrong," the emperor has no clothes." Instead of running to the news trying to embarrass pastor Winans, she should have trimmed the bushes and grass in front of her nasty home that she allows the baby to exist in. Black women's priorities are totally messed up. Instead of taking care of the home, shes out trying to run up in churches showing off the number one sin (not the child, he's innocent and blessed already, . .UNTIL THE PARENTS MESS THEM UP) that impacts our community in a negative way. This woman is almost 40 yrs old (not a teen pregnancy "mistake" by any means). She should know better, but she doesn't. And she doesn't try and get teaching and understanding from the church as to WHY they have to have a standard, and not kow tow to any and everything. No, she has to like a devil, strike a match and walk away. Now the only thing pastor didn't do that he should have is get on NATIONAL news and give these baby makers reason why he will not allow his church and the body of Christ to be taken over by these selfish, show off, want to be seen, attention seekers, pageantry seeking harlots to use the church as a showplace. I can see it now, Sunday service 10 or 12 women parading their multitude of "dressed up" kids across the front because you know once something catches on with black women, it becomes a fad and takes over until it is ruined. Like our communities, school systems, neighborhoods, welfare systems are being ruined by this trifling behavior. The babies are "cute " until a certain age then turned out into the streets to become society and jails problems. We can't afford to continue ignorance breeding ignorance. Now after its messed up society, they want to infiltrate the CHURCH. The rules have been set. Abide by them and learn. She doesn't know she's the one who looks like a fool, not Pastor Winans. He made his bones, and its still HIS bones, not hers. Guess she has to take her mess to a church that puts up with it. Leave normal people who stand for something alone. God will NOT allow the devil to take over his house . I CAST THEE OUT!!!!!!!!!!! . . ."I cast thee out."
.

If that’s one of his loving, God-fearing Christians, the reverend’s obviously not doing a very good job. I haven’t heard that kind of mean-spirited, un-Godly, viciousness since I witnessed two dope fiends fighting over a crack pipe in the parking lot of z fire ravaged pool hall. But considering the reverend’s reckless approach to scripture, I can fully understand how his flock would have something less than a perfect grasp of what it means to be a Christian. What the lady fails to understand is, if everybody who has had sex outside of marriage had to leave that church, there wouldn't be enough members left to throw a card party - and I'd be willing to bet that she and the good reverend would be among the first of those who'd have to be escorted out the door. That's generally how things work with self-righteous hypocrites.  But the most important thing that she fails to realize is the reverend is suppose to me disseminating the word of God, not the word of Winan. Disciples of God are suppose to be humble servants, not pompous, self-righteous dictators. So, ironically, it seems that, in this case, the only one that was acting in a Godly fashion was the one that the church turned away, Ms. Charity Grace.
.
But unfortunately, it seems that hypocrisy is not so much the exception as it is the rule in this country. True Christians seem to be exceedingly rare in this country. The primary reason for that is Christianity as practiced in the United States was founded upon hypocrisy. Americans tend to believe in a redacted version of the Bible. The true meaning of American exceptionalism is that we have a firm and fundamental belief in everything in the Bible EXCEPT those things that tend to interfere with our particular form of bigotry.
.
It’s no accident that what we refer to as "The Bible Belt" is renowned for being the most bigoted and intolerant region in this country. The reason for that is the religious community is the perfect environment for social bigots. Because under the umbrella of religion, bigots are free to hate in the name of God: "It’s not that I hate everybody who doesn't look, think, and act like me - it’s just that God does."
.
It’s exactly that kind of mentality that made it possible for "Love thy neighbor," and "Lynch thy nigga," to comfortably coexist in the South without a shred of guilt or cognitive dissonance. They simply ignore or contort anything in the Bible that doesn’t fit comfortably into their delusion of reality.
.
Another example of that is how preachers routinely ignore the Biblical's prescription that we pray in private, and that they not strut around in $1200 suits and roll around in Escalades. Again, the Bible is clear. It says that those who run around praying out loud for public consumption is getting their reward right here on Earth:
.
Matthew 6:1-34
.
"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. "Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. ..."
.
But again, these preachers and Bible thumpers aren't about to let a little thing like "the word of God" interfere with their false sense of righteous superiority, and their money-making potential.
.
Thus, while spirituality and the belief in a force greater than yourself is a good thing, the problem with organized religion is that man has set himself up as God’s emissary and Chief Operations Officer. So in the final analysis, what we end up calling "faith," is not faith in God at all; it’s faith in man, and what they tell us about God. Thus, many so-called Christians, like the "lady" who commented above, are not worshiping God, they're worshiping preachers, like the good Rev. Winans.  But as the current matter clearly demonstrates, these peachers have neither the wisdom, knowledge, intelligence, nor morality, to speak for God.
.
“The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.” - Ezekiel 18:19-20

THE REPUBLICAN

THE REPUBLICAN

Oh,
sweet patriot, square of jaw,
and demeanor of great command,
you fearlessly stand in defense of America,
and the savior of all God’s chosen men.

Anointed by God as his personal envoy
to all men, corrupt and blind,
and charged with the swift and brutal destruction
of all heathens of other kind.

You stand vigilant against all our enemies,
both foreign and imagined within;
You vigorously guard against all that is evil,
and all that you see as sin.

You define God’s needs and precious values,
in the most unambiguous tones,
and never once have you erred on behalf of truth,
to reveal “God’s values” as merely your own.

You lead our troops in fearless glory,
challenging Death to “Bring it on!”
Never thrusting your sword on the field of battle,
you fearlessly lead the charge by phone.

Oh,
sweet patriot, square of jaw,
and demeanor of great command,
how selfless your will to guard America,
while hating the pillars upon which it stands.

Republicans: Stuck in Own Muck

BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE

Republicans: Stuck in Own Muck

With the Grand Old Party experiencing its most precipitous decline in modern times, the very last thing it needs is a rusty old anchor pulling it down even farther. But that’s exactly what it’s got as it finds itself helplessly attached to a discredited and unrepentant Dick Cheney. Ironically, previously elusive and camera-shy, now that the former vice president is out of office, no one in the Republican Party seems to be able to shut him up.

Like a drowning man, he’s flailing about and willing, it seems, to take anyone down with him in order to save his own hide. He’s become a loose cannon, far removed from the ethic of team player that he insisted upon by all while he was in office. He’s a defense attorney’s worse nightmare. And his unabashed tendency for self-service over loyalty was clearly evident in a recent interview on CBS’ Face the Nation when he pointed the finger at former President Bush as being responsible for signing off on waterboarding.

Undoubtedly Cheney feels the gathering storm of accountability coming down upon him for what he calls "enhanced interrogation techniques" but the rest of the world is calling torture. His method of operation remains the same, however. Just as he did in his attempt to justify the invasion of Iraq, he’s using the shotgun approach in his attempt to justify the administration’s campaign of torture. But unfortunately for the GOP, in doing so, he’s giving the nation, and the world, a front row seat in observing the complete lack of character of one of the most reviled politicians in the history of this nation, and like it or not, the GOP feels forced to stand by him.

First, in an attempt to use Department of Justice lawyers as human shields, he claimed that DOJ attorneys advised the administration that waterboarding wasn’t torture. Thereafter, he tried to give the impression that he was selflessly trying to defend "the little guy" by insisting that the attorneys in question shouldn’t be held culpable for giving their best legal advice. But actually, he wasn’t defending "the little guy" at all–he was actually fortifying a bunker to protect Dick Cheney.

The only way that Cheney can keep DOJ attorneys on the reservation, and not have them reveal the genesis of their "legal opinions" in order to save their own necks, he must provide them with a cover for those opinions–a sort of, quid pro quo, like the one Scooter Libby thought he had. It is a must that he pull that off in order to hide behind the contention that he was simply following their advice as his cover. If he failed to protect the DOJ attorneys first, at some point in the future we’d undoubtedly hear Judge Bybee, former Attorney General Gonzales and others testifying that they wrote the memos because the vice president relayed a direct order to them from the commander and chief to do so during a time of war." That defense might not fly, but neither did their memos.

So just in case that tact doesn't work, Cheney is also trying to justify the use of torture (why deal in euphemisms?) by claiming that it was, and is, necessary in order to protect America. He contends that the Bush administration has kept us safe from attack for over seven years. But what evidence does he have of that? Both our Mexican and Canadian borders are like sieves. If Jose Gonzales can simply walk across the border, what prevents Osama Bin Laden from doing the same? What evidence does he have that Osama didn’t simply say, why waste perfectly good terrorist when Cheney and Bush are destroying America from within? The terrorists have done their part--they've created a situation that ignited the greed, corruption, and opportunism of the Bush/Cheney administration. Now all they have to do is sit back and watch America collapse from within. That's why we haven't been attacked.

Experts of every stripe dispute the claim that torture is an effective tool against terrorism, but even if it were partially effective, torture is against international law, and in direct contradiction of everything American stands for. The United States was not only a party to, but was a leader in hunting down, trying, and executing war criminals for indulging in that very same practice.

But even if we accepted Cheney’s position in this matter, how far should we go? If it’s all right to torture a detainee to protect America, would we be just as justified in waterboarding the detainee’s seven year-old daughter to get the detainee to talk–or what about placing her head in a vice? If not, why not--wouldn’t that also be justified in the name of protecting America? The reason we don't do such things is because such a practice would spell the total destruction of America as we know it. Once we go down that slippery slop, there’s no end to it. There are many who would say that American citizens who smoke weed are a threat to America. Should we torture them as well?

The problem with the Dick Cheneys of the world is that they fail to recognize that America is much more than a place on the map–it’s also an ideal. If the people of this nation picked up and moved to the North Pole, the North Pole would become America, because our American values would come right along with us. Conversely, if we desert those ideals, regardless to where we happen to be located, we’re no longer Americans. The ideals that Cheney espouse would feel much more at home in Nazi Germany, or Stalinist Russia. The day that America embraces them, will be the day the terrorists can declare victory over the United States.

America has begun to realize that fact. As a result, the nation is in the midst of a new awakening that has left Cheney, Limbaugh, and much of the GOP leadership with their proverbial pants down. That’s why the GOP is in such a flux, and all we hear from them is one resounding no–to everything. That’s all they can say, because due to the GOP’s heavy reliance on wingnuts, social bigots, and various other extremists, they’re now completely locked in with the Cheneys and Limbaughs of the world. That’s their only means of support. At this point, the closest parallel to the GOP position with respect to Cheney and Limbaugh would be having to stand as a character reference for Charles Manson because your family was being held hostage.

But it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group of people. It’s next to impossible to feel sorry for the GOP because they’re getting exactly what hypocrites, demagogues, and social manipulators deserve. They've slipped in their own feces. Now, after basing their entire political careers on false patriotism, it’s going be pure hell trying to explain to their constituents why they supported two draft dodgers--Rush Limbaugh (a racist gasbag who avoided his military obligation by declaring a boil on his butt), and Dick Cheney (who had five deferments and indicated that "I had other priorities" when asked why he avoided the service)-- over Colin Powell (a decorated war hero, a Four Star General, former Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, and Sec. of State).

Neither of these two draft dodgers think Gen. Colin Powell deserves to be called a Republican. Well, I guess you can find an area of agreement with anyone, because at this point, neither do I.
